Thirsty? Here in the UK, if you want a drink of water, all you have to do is simply turn on the tap and ‘hey presto’, you’ve a fresh glass of cool, clean water to quench your thirst.

But unfortunately, in other areas of the world, it isn’t that easy.

Over one billion people across the globe still don’t have access to clean drinking water. And two million people, mostly children, die every year from drinking contaminated water.

Shocking isn’t it?

Many of these people, usually women and children, have to endure a back-breaking 5-hour trek to fetch clean water for their family.

This isn’t just once a month either. Or once a week. Or even every few days. It’s every single day. 365 days a year. Which is extremely thirsty work for anyone.

Access to clean drinking water isn’t just about easing thirst though. It’s also about improving health, allowing children the time to get educated, gender equality and economic development.
